African Cichlids are a family of fish that are found in three main lakes in Africa; Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Malawi. They are some of the most colorful freshwater fish out there but they are very territorial towards each other so most tank are rather large. While they are territorial their main diet is vegetarian grazing on plants and algae. They prefer their pH to be much higher than that of most other wanting to be between 8.2-8.4. The substrate they like is a rocky sand bottom that replicate that of the lakes they come from.
